64-Bit RTOS VxWorks

Wind River has released an updagred version of 64- bit embedded RTOS. This support improvded multi-core processing support. It supports 64 bit both data and code execution that was once upon a time used only in super computers and server market. Today increase in data traffic in telcommunicaton network infrastructure equipment manufacturers 64 bit computing is becoming very critical  in keeping up with the stresses of increasingly exploding data. also for industrial and medical applications such as high-definition imagery, and aerospace and defense applications such as highly complex radar, sonar and sensors.

World's Most Famous Real Time Operating System

Japanese rtos ITRON, a real-time kernel for small-scale embedded systems is the most famous RTOS world wide. ITRON runs on all most all  electronics devices from mobile phones, digital cameras, CD players and countless other electronic devices.  Launched in 1984, TRON was designed to replace disparate computer systems with a unified, open architecture for a "total computer environment."

Good News for Mac users !! Market share of MAC operating system on desktop computer has increased to 6.02% in Aug 2011.. globally and is now at 13.42% in U.S

Various trends in designing an Operating system

Abstract

Monolithic- and micro-kernel-based operating systems such as Unix have failed to provide application developers with sufficient flexibility. They provide a host of inefficient and often inappropriate abstractions that prevent applications from accessing the hardware to exploit efficiency gains. These problems motivated the Grasshopper project to build a new operating system designed to explicitly support orthogonal persistence. Five years on, Grasshopper has demonstrated the feasibility of such an operating system although several problems have
been identified. In light of this, we decided to redesign our kernel using modern techniques. This paper examines the trends in operating system design over the last few years and describes our plans to produce a new persistent micro-kernel.
Keywords: operating systems, micro-kernels, exo-kernels, persistence.
